Immigration Services: Managing the Mexican visa process can be quite daunting to an international family. We can help. We can advise you on the appropriate visa for you, as well as handle the application process, renewals, cancelations and all relevant matters. A local immigration expert will handle the filings with the Secretaria de Gobernacion (sp), Instituto Nacional de Migracion (sp). For more information on Mexican visas, see the article "The Visa Process: Why it is so Difficult to Stay "Legal" in Mexico."
U.S. Car Permit: We can answer your questons about temporarily importing a U.S. car. Unfortunately, due to misinformation and isolated incidents with local traffic police (transitos), many expats are concerned about the validity of their car permit sticker. We have the answers. For more information on Temporarily Importing a U.S. Car to Mexico, see the article "The Sticker Issue: What Happens to a Car Import Sticker during the FM-3 Visa Renewal Process."
Consent Letters for Minors to Travel: Although there is no longer a valid law requiring one parent to provide a notarized permission letter for their children to travel internationally with only the other parent, many families choose to carry these type letters just to avoid confusion at the border crossings, with airlines, or within the U.S. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want more information, help in the drafting, or notarization. The customary charge is $200 pesos per letter.
Wills, Estates and Trusts: Whether you have a will that is valid in the U.S., or you are in need of one, let me help you coordinate your estate plan with your new life and residency in Mexico. For U.S. families with sufficient ties to the State of Texas, I can draft wills and trusts for you. For people from other states, I can help you design an estate plan and then find the appropriate lawyer to do your U.S. legal work, if necessary. For more information on Wills and Estates, particularly on issues relating to young children in Mexico, see the article, "Wills: Is a U.S. Will Valid in Mexico."
